Network Address Translation

What Does Network Address Translation Mean?

Network Address Translation or NAT is a method used to remap an IP address in to a different IP address. The process involves modifying the network address information contained within the Internet Protocol (IP) packet headers as they are transmitted over a routing device, e.g. a router. Commonly used to remap private network IP addresses into a public IP address in order to be able to access public networks i.e. the Internet.
